Testing summary: GoTaskAI completed three documented Notion AI tests. Test 1 evaluated workspace reasoning and Agent actions across conflicting project pages; Notion AI selected the latest approved information and correctly updated an existing database record, scoring 9.8/10. Test 2 evaluated Research Mode using controlled workspace sources; it correctly distinguished historical metrics from current targets and produced accurate citations, scoring 10/10. Test 3 evaluated PDF and structured-data analysis; it extracted key figures, performed calculations, and detected deliberate numerical discrepancies, scoring 9.8/10. No manual factual corrections were required.
Plan used: Free plan — complimentary Notion AI access
Best result: Research Mode achieved 10/10 in our controlled benchmark, correctly resolving conflicting sources, separating current results from future targets, and linking factual claims to the correct workspace citations.
Main limitation: No material factual failure occurred across three tests; the main weakness was minor instruction-following drift, including formatting differences and one small unsupported elaboration.
Human review needed: Required

Quick Verdict

Notion AI is one of the strongest AI workspace assistants we tested, especially for teams that already manage projects, documents, and knowledge inside Notion. In our hands-on tests, it accurately resolved conflicting workspace information, produced well-grounded research with citations, updated database records correctly, and analyzed a structured PDF with only minor instruction-following issues. Its biggest limitation is that sustained AI access is tied to higher-tier plans and current usage allowances.
Best For
Teams and knowledge workers who already use Notion for projects, documents, research, and internal knowledge.
Worth It?
Yes, especially for people and teams already using Notion who want AI research, writing, analysis, and workspace automation in one place.
Main Strength
Combines workspace context, research, file analysis, and direct database actions inside one AI assistant.
Main Weakness
Full ongoing AI access requires higher-tier plans, while usage limits and feature availability can vary by plan.

What is Notion AI?

Notion AI has evolved from a writing assistant into a broader AI layer for the Notion workspace. It can search and synthesize workspace knowledge, conduct Research Mode queries with citations, analyze uploaded files, generate and edit content, and use Notion Agent to make changes across pages and databases. In our three August 2026 hands-on tests, it handled conflicting information accurately, distinguished current results from future targets, updated structured database fields without creating duplicates, and identified numerical discrepancies inside a PDF. The experience is especially valuable for existing Notion users, although pricing, usage allowances, and plan-specific access should be considered before relying on it heavily.

Key Features

Notion Agent

Uses workspace context to answer questions, create and edit pages, update databases, and complete multi-step tasks inside Notion. In our first hands-on test, it correctly resolved conflicting information across six project pages and updated an existing database record without creating a duplicate.

Research Mode

Performs deeper research across workspace sources, connected apps, and the web, with citations to supporting sources. In our second hands-on test, it correctly distinguished historical results from current targets and achieved 10/10 accuracy across our controlled research benchmark.

Enterprise Search

Searches and synthesizes information across Notion and supported connected services while respecting the user’s existing access permissions.

File Analysis

Reads and analyzes uploaded files such as PDFs and images, extracts structured information, performs calculations, and identifies inconsistencies. In our third hands-on test, it correctly detected a 10-organization discrepancy and a $400 MRR reconciliation difference in a structured PDF.

Page & Database Actions

Creates, edits, and organizes Notion pages and databases directly through AI, including updating structured properties and existing records.

AI Writing & Editing

Drafts, rewrites, summarizes, translates, and improves content directly inside Notion pages using the surrounding workspace context.

AI Meeting Notes

Records, transcribes, summarizes, and organizes meetings into key points, decisions, and action items, with availability and language support varying by feature and plan.

AI Autofill

Uses AI to populate database properties with summaries, classifications, extracted information, and other structured outputs based on page content.

Multiple AI Models

Provides access to multiple AI model families through Notion, with model availability, capabilities, and access to workspace context varying by selected model and plan.

Pros & Cons

Notion AI performed extremely well in our hands-on testing, especially when working with structured workspace knowledge, research tasks, and file analysis. Frequently Asked Questions

What is Notion AI used for?

Notion AI is designed to work directly inside the Notion workspace. It can help research and summarize information, answer questions across workspace content, draft and edit text, analyze uploaded files, create or update pages and databases, and complete multi-step tasks through Notion Agent.

Is Notion AI free?

Notion’s Free and Plus plans can provide limited complimentary access to try Notion AI, but continued full access to the main AI features requires an eligible paid plan. Business is the primary plan for ongoing Notion AI access, while Enterprise adds additional administration, security, and data-retention controls.

Can Notion AI search my workspace and cite sources?

Yes. Research Mode and Notion’s search capabilities can synthesize information from workspace pages and supported connected sources, with citations back to the underlying material. In our controlled Research Mode test, Notion AI correctly resolved conflicting sources and linked factual claims to the appropriate workspace pages.

Can Notion AI analyze PDFs and other files?

Yes. Notion AI can analyze uploaded files such as PDFs, extract information, summarize findings, and reason over structured data. In our hands-on PDF test, it correctly identified deliberate numerical discrepancies, calculated totals, and distinguished verified figures from conflicting table values.

Does Notion use my workspace data to train AI models?

Notion states that customer data is not used to train its AI models or third-party AI models by default. Data handling and retention can vary by plan and AI provider, with Enterprise offering stronger controls such as zero data retention with supported LLM providers by default.

Is Notion AI accurate enough to use without human review?

Not for every task. Notion AI performed extremely well in our three hands-on tests, but important research, extracted data, database changes, and business decisions should still be reviewed by a person. AI can misinterpret incomplete information, follow instructions imperfectly, or produce conclusions that require verification.
